Introduction and Importance of Anointing
Wilfred: I'm so excited and delighted to share this episode with you. Anointing is a profound biblical concept that must be understood. It marks divine appointment, set apart for individual for God's purpose and the kingdom. God is faithful, and you look at throughout the Bible, you see the anointing of God plays significant role.
Biblical References to Anointing
Wilfred: I'm going to read Romans 15, verse 13, May the Lord God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Zechariah 4, verse 6, [00:01:00] So he said to me, This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, not by mind, not by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord God Almighty.
My message, this is 1st Corinthians 2, verse 4 and 5, " My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive ways. But with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's will. Power. "
The Anointing: A Difference Maker
Wilfred: Let's dive deep into this episode as we explore the vital significant subject of what I call the difference maker it is a difference maker?
What difference can we look at and say it's indeed a difference Maker. What difference does it make in the lives of disciples of Christ? course of [00:02:00] humanity was transformed and changed due to this great factor. This factor will make the difference in your life and revolutionize your destiny forever.
The difference maker I'm talking about is the anointing, the difference maker. The anointing is the difference maker. The anointing makes the difference. Because the anointing will cause a change and transformation in the lives of people. The anointing is powerful. It is something loaded.
The anointing you cannot meet with the anointing or the anointing of God comes upon your life and Your life cannot remain the same
The anointing of God causes transformation. As we look into this episode today, The Difference Maker, I want us to reflect on what we are going to hear today. I'm [00:03:00] going to divide the episode into three parts.
Anointing in the Old Testament
Wilfred: One, the anointing in the Old Testament. Two, the anointing in the New Testament.
Three, the purpose of the anointing. So let's go back to the first one, the anointing in the Old Testament. We see the Old Testament provides numerous examples of anointing as a divine act. of consecration and empowerment. The anointing in the Old Testament, the Bible makes us understand something very profound. There were times that God told them to anoint things, anoint the temple, anoint objects, and anoint the people as well. anointing oil then, was not just consecration.
Only for the people. Also for an object anointing of God in the Old Testament, I can look into it [00:04:00] deeply. This anointing of the Old Testament.
Priestly, Kingly, and Prophetic Anointing
Wilfred: I can divide the anointing three parts or three kinds of anointing that happened that was so obvious and obvious in the Old Testament. The first one is priestly anointing.
You'll see in the case of Moses and Aaron. Aaron and his sons were anointed as priests, which shows they are being released into their duty to serve God and the people of Israel. If you look at Exodus 30 verse 30, God instructed Moses to anoint Aaron and his sons. Consecrate them as priest.
He was to consecrate them onto the law to serve God and to serve the people of Israel and what the Bible said. And you shall not err. And [00:05:00] his sons. And consecrate them that they may minister to me as priest. This was the law commanding, giving an instruction to Moses in Exodus 30, 30, that Moses anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them unto me that they may minister unto me as priest.
So that is what I call priestly anointing, but if you look at it today in the new testament, God has made unto our God. We are priests. We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, peculiar, set apart to God. priestly anointing in the Old Testament is different in the New Testament. The first one I talk about, the anointing in the Old Testament, is priestly anointing. The second one is kingly anointing,
We look at the case of David. King David was anointed to be king. Kings were anointed to indicate [00:06:00] God's choice, God's blessing upon their reign. the anointing is to be into the royal office, the place to rule over the people of God.
perhaps one of the most famous anointing of king David. Anointing of the King is found in 1 Samuel. 1 Samuel 16, 13. As start, you see what the Bible says. It said, Then Samuel took the horn of Oeh and anointed him, he was referring to David, in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.
So this anointing marks David's divine appointment as a king. Divine chosen, divine elected, divine selection by God, and empower him with the Spirit of the Lord to reign in the kingdom. In his office. Kingly anointing. Kingly [00:07:00] anointing. God anoints people. He anoints. He selects the people. He sets them apart.
The anointing sets them apart to be a king over the people of God. Then you see the third one is what we call prophetic anointing. prophetic anointing. Prophetic anointing. you look into the scripture, 1 Kings chapter 19, you will see the story what happened. God instructed Elijah to anoint Elisha as a prophet to succeed him. This act of anointing prophets is what is spiritual authority.
It is the symbol that God has called the person into the office of a prophet. Or has called the person, has anointed the person. As a prophet is what I call prophetic anointing. Prophetic anointing. So prophetic anointing and the Old Testament, it is when God send a prophet to anoint another person with oil [00:08:00] into the calling.
So this is what I call prophetic anointing. It happened in the case between Elijah and Elisha. Elijah was instructed by God to anoint Elisha.
Anointing in the New Testament
Wilfred: Then that leads me to the second Point the anointing in the New Testament. You remember I said earlier that the priestly anointing in the Old Testament was done with oil in the New Testament there is a change.
because it's no longer the same. The priestly anointing, you don't use oil to anoint someone to be a priest. Today, in the New Testament, there is a change because the was in the shadow of the reality. So the Holy Spirit was not yet given in the Old Testament when the Lord instructed them to anoint the king, or to anoint the priest, in the case of Aaron and his sons, or [00:09:00] to anoint the prophets.
In case of Elijah and Elisha, Elijah to anoint Elisha in his office, in his place, this was done with physical olive oil. They were anointed with olive oil, which was a physical substance, physical things to see. But in The New Testament a different game, different thing entirely,
The New Testament reveals an expanded understanding of the anointing through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. we saw the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus Christ. The greatest example we can see concerning the anointing in the New Testament is in the life of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ's life was characterized by the anointing. He lived the life of the anointing. In fact, the Bible refers to Jesus as the anointed one, Christ, the anointed [00:10:00] one. In Luke chapter 4, verse 18 to 19, we saw Jesus read the scroll of the book of Isaiah in the synagogue. If you could remember, he declared in the anointing.
He said the spirit of the law is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of the sight to the blind, to set at liberty those
Who are oppressed to proclaim the acceptable year of the law. So Jesus shown to the people in the synagogue that he has been anointed. He was not anointed with oil. I know some of you like the olive oil. You want someone to pour oil on you. want to disappoint you by saying that, but I will tell you the truth.
There is no place in the scripture in the [00:11:00] New Testament that you have to anoint people with oil except the sick. Jesus never told the disciples, if I live on the path now, you continue to anoint others to be a disciple, or anoint others to be a pastor, or anoint others be an apostle, or anoint others to be a great minister, or the prophet, or in a new generation.
We see this going on today in the body of Christ, that people have been, they are pouring oil on people to ordain them into a ministry, and they are laying hand on them and appointing Poring oil over them. Laying on hand is OK. You can lay hand on them and send them forth. Not oi. You know this podcast, we tell you the truth.
I will never lie to you. I will tell you what is in, what is scriptural. It's not what is not scriptural. Jesus was not anointed with the oil. the anointing Jesus received, the Bible said it very clear in Acts 10, verse 38.
This [00:12:00] indicates what happened concerning the life of Jesus Christ, how God anointed Jesus Christ of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil. For God was with him. And the Bible says something very profound here, that he was anointed with the Holy Spirit with power.
he was anointed with the Holy Ghost. The Old King James will say, Holy Ghost and power. The same, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Ghost, the one you want to call. So he was anointed with the Holy and with power. The Bible say because of the anointing upon him, he went about, he went everywhere, healing all who were oppressed by the devil and the Bible said God was with him.
Because he was anointed, God was with him. When the moment one is anointed, there will always be the presence of [00:13:00] God upon a man. When a man is anointed, there will always be a different anointing. from the one who is not anointed. When somebody who is anointed preaches the word of God, he will preach with the power, with the backing of the Holy Spirit, different from someone who is so eloquent, can speak English and speak grammar well.
We're known how to quote scriptures but there is no impartation. The reason there's no impartation, the difference between the anointed preacher and the one that is not anointed but well educated is the anointing. The anointing makes the difference. So the anointing God's transformation.
If you see someone who is anointed, you will know indeed he's anointed because there will be a transformation in his meeting. When he speaks, he will speak with authority. He will speak with power. He will speak with anointing. A part of God will be demonstrated when he speaks. As I'm speaking right now,
I feed a part of God upon me. I don't do this often, but I [00:14:00] want to do it right now. Whatever you are, as you are here with me, if you are sick, or you know anyone sick at this moment, just say Amen. I release healing. For everyone hearing me right now, I command healing to take place in your body. Healing among your loved ones.
In the name of Jesus, I come against cancer. I come against leukaemia. I come against any kind of disease. I come against kidney stones. I command it to dissolve in the name of Jesus. I command a part of the Holy Ghost to take over you. Whatever you are hearing me right now, leave me alone. I combine the healing part of God to take over you right now in the name of Jesus.
I speak over your body. I speak to your bone. I speak to your bone marrow. I come against any kind of disease of the bone, cancer of the bone. In the name of Jesus. I commend you to leave. I command the sickness to leave you in the name of Jesus.
Now, in the name of Jesus, I command a part of the Holy Ghost to make a difference in your life. In Jesus mighty [00:15:00] name, amen. Amen. I will continue. So then in the New Testament, we are not anointed with olive oil. We are anointed by the Holy Spirit. Praise God for the anointing. Thank God for the anointing.
So Christ was example that was anointed the Holy Spirit. He set the example for us. To follow the Christians in the New Testament. The Bible make us understand the concept of the anointing to the Christians. Very obvious. The Bible said in Corinthians 21 22.
Paul writes, now he who established us. with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. This anointing signifies that all believers are set apart and [00:16:00] empowered by the Holy Spirit for God's purpose, for the kingdom's purpose.
We see in the New Testament is the Holy Spirit that does the work. The anointing of the Holy Spirit is what start, throughout in the New Testament. In the Acts of Apostles, you remember in Acts 1 verse 8, Jesus promised disciples, he says to them that no. You wait for the promise of the Father, and you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit karma has come upon you, and you shall be a witness unto me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.
And that came to the point of the Holy Spirit. came to pass on the day of Pentecost in chapter two when the bible said when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all filled with the holy ghost and began to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. It said there was a rushing mighty wind and i feel the house where they were together and they began speak with tongues as the spirit gave them, the spirit rested upon them as a form of a dove.
Amazing. So the Holy [00:17:00] Spirit start, is the factor, the one that anointing the believer. The Christians anointed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes with the anointing. You cannot separate the Holy Spirit from the anointing.
You cannot separate the anointing from the Holy Spirit. If you are talking about the anointing of God, the anointing of the Holy Spirit cannot be separated from the Holy Spirit himself.
Purpose of the Anointing
Wilfred: That will lead me to the last part, which is the purpose of the anointing. The purpose of the anointing.
The anointing is not mere a ceremonial act, but a divine impartation of God's power and presence on his people. The first thing that I would say is, A, of this purpose. empowerment for ministry. Anointing equips Christians with a spiritual authority, spiritual gifts, power needed for the kingdom work, for the work of the ministry.
was evident in the ministry of [00:18:00] Apostles, all the Apostles, the Bible says, who perform miracles. Preach boldly because of the anointing and establish early churches through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I'm going to read chapter four verse 33. And with great power, the apostle gave witness to the of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them. the Bible said with great power, they witness. the power of the Holy Spirit, they may be to understand the of Jesus Christ.
And the Bible said, because great grace was upon them. I'm going to read five verse 12. And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch, and of the rest thus no man joined [00:19:00] himself to them.
But the people magnified them. Verse fourteen, And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitude both of men and women. In someone that they brought forth the sick into the streets. Lay them on beds and couches at least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some Of them, verse sixteen, there came also a multitude out of the city, around about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks and them which were vexed with unclean spirits.
And they were healed Everyone amazing. This is the work of the anointing the different maker You see what happened god wrought special miracle with the hands of the apostles god wrought special miracle with the hands of paul God wrought [00:20:00] Signs and wonder miracles through the apostles even the bible said In chapter 5, we have just read that the power of God was so mighty, a miracle was done through them, through the apostles.
A lot of miracles was done, wrote among the people. The people saw the miracle of God start, through the lives of the apostles. And the Bible said because of that, they went in to villages around and they brought in the sick on the street, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by must fall on some of them.
The Bible said. As many that they brought, they were all healed. They were all healed because of the anointing. Not because of anything else. The Bible verses I have read indicate the difference the anointing can make
In the lives of the people of God. The anointings in the New Testament, I swear, set us apart and contrasted us. Secrete us unto God, the anointing maker to be set apart for the [00:21:00] kingdom purpose. In 1 John 2. 20, the Bible says, But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. what the Bible talks about.
You know no one to teach you these things, because you have the anointing in you. This anointing not only sets Christians apart, but also grants Christians spiritual insight, empowerment, transformation, and desirement. Healing, deliverance, and restoration.
Because of the anointing. Anointing is also associated with healing, with deliverance, and restoration. The Bible says in James 5, 14, and 16, the Bible says, Is anyone among you sick? Let him call the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the world.
The Sik and the law will [00:22:00] raise him up. with oil is a tangible expression of God's healing power. When the Bible say anoint the with oil, anoint with oil. So when you anoint the sick with oil believing that God will heal, there will always be healing.
Conclusion and Prayer
Wilfred: In conclusion of this episode, anointing is a difference maker.
It represents God's choosing, empowerment, set apart of individuals for divine purposes and kingdom assignment. The presence of God, remember the presence of God, you cannot be anointed and people don't see the presence of God around you because the anointing carries his presence.
He carries the presence of God. May the Lord bless us. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, I thank you for today. Thank you for your word we've heard. Thank you because your work comes with simplicity, it comes with power, it comes with understanding.
My Lord and my Father, I pray for everyone [00:23:00] listening, all that are listening right now, and I pray that you bless them. Bless each and every one of them. Strengthen them to understand the anointing more than us have spoken. Have your way, Holy Spirit. Do that which only you can do. Take the glory.
My Father, my God, let the anointing make a difference in our lives that can never be erased. Thank you, my heavenly father. Blessed be your holy name. In Jesus mighty name we've prayed. Amen.
